Students Build a Foam-Free Lunch Program
Jan 15, 2025
After participating in a Refoam cleanup last fall, a group of middle schoolers in Eastbrook went back to their cafeteria with a mission: ban foam trays and offer a greener alternative.
Working with teachers and parents, they built a plan to replace foam with compostable fiberware, and presented it to the school board with stats, photos, and testimonies.
Six weeks later, the plan was approved.
"It showed us that cleanups are just the beginning," said 13-year-old Elijah. "Change can start with what we eat lunch on."
Their story was featured in a local paper, and other schools in the district are now looking to follow suit.
